Sure, there are improvements I’m advocating for.

Given your post, it seems important I give context about my history in and out of the game: I didn’t see a question or a suggestion in your post, so I assume you’re just making a statement. The bones are excellent, the flesh needs time to get properly filled out - just like many, many MMOs that turned out to be great needed when they launched.

There is work to do, no doubt, but yes - I still think the game is well made (that in no way means bug free or not in need of changes, it means the world-building, the environment, the ambience, and the basic design direction work well for me), engaging (an intensely subjective opinion, mine as well as yours) experience deserving of accolades. That doesn’t mean it isn’t having teething pains - it is - or that there are not serious issues to be dealt with - there are - but it means I disagree with your gloomy assessment that that bar I have for the games I play is way too low. Yes, believe it or not despite having been in one MMO or another - often several sub-paying MMOs concurrently - since the beta of Asheron’s Call and having been here for quite some time I still love the game. I know for a fact that group of players exist because I’m a member of that group. You’re short at least one type of player in your list someone who has been playing MMOs for a very long time, loves the genre, and has spent a lot of time in New World - both in multiple testing iterations and in the launch version - and still finds the game to be a very worthwhile place to be despite the absolutely normal MMO launch issues/content shortcomings. If you’re on these forums and you still feel like this game is a well-made, engaging experience deserving of accolades, chances are you either haven’t played long enough or your standards are way too low. The failing economy, the insane mob density, the bland quest design, the “copy and paste” world, the unsatisfying amount of REAL content (not just the illusion of content)…and it all came to a head for me. I started to see the reality of the game’s design. When I first started playing New World, my opinion was, “This game is amazing.” Even 50 hours in, I still thought, “This game is amazing.” I hit level 55 and started to feel the life sucked out of me, but you know what? I still thought, “I’m really enjoying this game.” Then I hit about 120 hours of gameplay and everything changed.

I’m even criticized by friends and family for always thinking a movie or video game is “amazing.” So, one would think that would be my opinion of New World. I consider myself someone who is typically irrationally positive about all forms of entertainment that I consume. There are three types of people I’ve seen on this forum: those who have never played an MMO before and who are therefore ignorant of all of New World’s shortcomings, those who have played an MMO before but haven’t played New World for very long and still think it’s a well-made experience, and those who have played an MMO before and after dozens of hours of New World gameplay are beginning to realize how incomplete and frustrating that experience actually is. …so if you haven’t played it for a significant amount of time, you probably still feel like it’s a good, well-made experience.
